Fine art photography refers to photographs that are created in accordance with the creative vision of the photographer as artist. Fine art photography stands in contrast to photojournalism, which provides visual support for stories, mainly in the print media, and commercial photography, the primary focus of which is to sell products or services.

Memory Hour has always approached this form of photography toward a careful staging and lighting of the picture, rather than hoping to "discover" it ready-made. Our Photographers are noted for the quality of their staged pictures. Additionally, new technological trends in digital photography has opened a new direction in full spectrum photography, where careful filtering choices across the ultraviolet, visible and infrared lead to new artistic visions.

Nikon D3X

The D3X is Nikon’s third FX-format (24×36mm sensor area) digital SLR, following the earlier D3 and D700. While the D3 and D700 share essentially identical internal electronics, the D3X is housed by an identical camera body and external controls as the D3, but the X suffix indicates that internally, its sensor has a higher pixel count, in this case 24MP vs. 12 on the D3.

Since the D3X shares the same camera body, controls, AF system and literally a lot of capabilities with the D3. This D3X review will focus on its differences from the D3, namely how doubling the number of pixels affects the final results and how it affects the low-light, high ISO capability.

Nikon D3

The Nikon D3 is a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera introduced following the D2 series as Nikon's top-of-the-line professional grade camera. Unlike its two predecessors, at least initially, the D3 does not have separate H and X variations, such as the D1H/D1X and D2H/D2X, which are optimized for action photography (H) and high-resolution applications (X), respectively. However, based on its specifications such as 9 frames per second (fps), a new state-of-the-art Multi-CAM 3500 AF module, and a relatively modest 12MP resolution, it is clear that the D3 is optimized for sports, news, and wildlife photography. Additionally, since the D3 has excellent high-ISO performance for indoor existing-light conditions, it should also be a great wedding camera.

Another important distinction for the D3 is that it is Nikon's first DSLR that uses a 23.9x36mm sensor, which Nikon now refers to as the FX format. For all practical purposes, it is the same size as the traditional 35mm film frame (24x36mm). Therefore, Nikon F-mount lenses will produce the same angle of view on the D3 as they do on 35mm film SLRs, and there is no more digital "crop factor."

Nikon D700

The Nikon D700 digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera is a cross between the full-frame sensor (FX – 24×36mm) D3 and the small-frame sensor (DX – 16×24mm) D300. The D700 is the economy model of the D3, using the same sensor and digital electronic processing pipeline as its bigger brother, minus a few high-end features such as a built-in vertical grip and dual compact flash memory cards. The Nikon D700 is a professional camera with 12 MP.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II

The Canon EOS 5D MkII is Canon’s latest full frame DSLR. Externally it is very similar to the Canon EOS 5D. The only really obvious difference is the larger LCD screen and the chrome plated hotshoe vs. the black painted hotshoe of the 5D. Internally the EOS 5D MkII shows more differences, with the major hardware change being a 21.1MP sensor.

SONY Alpha A900

If a 24MP full frame DLSR wasn’t enough, Sony added in-body stabilization via sensor shift technology. The specifications indicate higher performance than the system found on their crop sensor DSLRs and they say that it should offer up to 4 stops of stabilization. The obvious advantage of in-body stabilization is that you only pay for it once, and every lens mounted on the camera becomes part of a stabilized system.
